Judicial Green Light in Chandigarh Mayoral Election 2024: AAP Councillor Kuldeep Kumar Request for New Elections Got Accepted After Allegations of Vote Fraud

Green Light in Chandigarh Mayoral Election: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has agreed to quickly consider a request made by AAP Councillor Kuldeep Kumar. He is questioning the Chandigarh Mayoral Election, claiming that the ballot paper was tampered.

BJP Councillor Manoj Sonkar won the election today. Kumar believes that the election didn’t follow the High Court’s instructions and is asking for a new election to be held. Today, this matter was brought up in front of Justice GS Sandhawalia and Justice Lapita Banerji.

Kumar claims that the Presiding Officer, who is in charge, stated that he did not want assistance from members nominated by the political parties. Kumar describes his decision to tally the votes himself as reckless. Kumar claims that despite the political party’s objections, the Deputy Commissioner and the House Secretary—both BJP members—did not intervene.

Three containers were placed in front of the Presiding Officer, the person in charge: one for the AAP candidate, one for the BJP candidate, and one for invalid votes. According to the appeal, the Presiding Officer purposefully shifted the votes from one container to another, as shown in the video. The plea claims that this was done in order to manipulate and tamper with the votes in order to cause confusion and totally ruin the voting process.

Appeal for Election Transparency in Chandigarh:

According to the previously provided information, the petitioner seeks the cancellation of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation mayoral election process, citing perceived dishonesty in the democratic process as the cause.

In order to ensure there was no misconduct, the proposal further calls for fair and impartial new elections to be conducted under the supervision of a retired High Court judge.

Elections for the positions of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor, and Deputy Mayor were scheduled for January 30 by the Chandigarh Administration, per a directive from the High Court. It was advised to the Chandigarh police to keep the Municipal Corporation Office and the surrounding area peaceful during the polling process.

Law issues caused the mayoral election, which was originally scheduled for January 18, to be postponed.
