The leader of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), Jayant Chaudhary, is rumored to be talking about a collaboration with the BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which could cause problems for the Opposition’s INDIA bloc. According to sources, talks between the two parties are still going on, and the BJP has suggested giving the RLD four Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh: Kairana, Baghpat, Mathura, and Amroha.
According to reports, Jayant Chaudhary met on Tuesday in Delhi with a top leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This meeting sparked discussions about the two parties potentially collaborating just a few months before the crucial elections.
Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP), made the following statement without specifically addressing the allegations of a disagreement: “Jayant Chaudhary is honest, well-educated, and he knows politics… I hope he doesn’t make the farmers’ struggle easier.”
According to sources, all party spokespersons have been instructed by the RLD’s top leaders to refrain from commenting on rumors that the party is planning to join the BJP-led NDA.
If Jayant Chaudhary switches to the NDA from being an important supporter of the Samajwadi Party, it would hurt the INDIA bloc even more. The bloc is already facing challenges with Nitish Kumar leaving, and there are rumors of issues within the Trinamool Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party.
Jayant Chaudhary also seems to be moving away from the coalition. He recently postponed a rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Chhaprauli, where a statue of his grandfather, Chaudhary Charan Singh, was to be revealed. The official reason given was the ground conditions, but some insiders think it’s linked to the rumored talks of forming an alliance.
There are rumors that if the BJP and RLD decide to form an alliance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi may show up at the event. Chaudhary’s recent absence from Parliament is interpreted as an indication that he may be considering joining the ruling party. Additionally, it appears that the relationship between Jayant Chaudhary and Akhilesh Yadav has been strained due to the ambiguous seat allocation within the SP-RLD alliance.
The SP and RLD reached a consensus on January 19 over the allocation of seats for the next elections. Although Chaudhary’s party was awarded seven seats, disagreements arose regarding Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, and Kairana. The RLD was troubled by the SP’s desire to present its candidates there.
Leader of the SP Shivpal Singh Yadav refuted reports that the RLD and the BJP were collaborating in an interview with Aaj Tak/India Today. He said these stories were made up by the BJP. “RLD is with us and will continue to support us in upcoming elections. These discussions don’t need to alarm us. Together, we’ll defeat the BJP in the elections,” he declared.
While the Congress and SP are debating how to divide the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, this political activity is taking place. The Congress plans to contest for 25 seats, and the SP has proposed 11 candidates for the party’s 16 open seats.
The Bahujan Samaj Party of Mayawati and the SP combined won five seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, while the Congress managed to win only one. The SP now wishes to run for 65 seats.
