NZ vs AUS: Australia and New Zealand’s three-game Twenty20 series got off to an entertaining start. The first Twenty20 match played in Wellington on Wednesday (February 21) reached its zenith. Every team scored more than 200 runs.
After batting first, New Zealand amassed 215 runs in 20 overs. Australia worked hard to pursue the goal as well. The fact that Australia needed four runs on the final ball to win made the match extremely exciting. After Tim David hit a four to finish the run, Australia triumphed by six wickets.
Mitchell Santner, the captain of New Zealand, won the coin toss and decided to bat first in this game. The batsmen from New Zealand got off to a fast start, scoring 60 runs in the first five overs. When the team’s score came to 61 runs, the first wicket was removed.
On the second ball of the sixth over, Finn Allen (scoring 32) was out of the game. Following that, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra teamed up to score 113 runs in 64 balls. With a combined score of 174, Devon Conway (scoring 63) and Rachin Ravindra (making 68) were both removed on successive deliveries. Glenn Phillips and Mark Chapman added 41 runs in 23 balls towards the conclusion of the innings. As a result, New Zealand managed to score 215/3 in the allotted overs.
Australia successfully pursued the 216-run mark as well. David Warner and Travis Head were off to a fast start, but Head was removed after 24 runs in 15 balls. After scoring 32 runs off of 20 balls, David Warner left the game later as well.
After that, Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh assumed command and led his side to victory with an undefeated 72 runs off 44 balls. At first, Marsh and Warner had a 40-run alliance. With Glenn Maxwell (25), he then put up 42 runs for the third wicket. Afterwards, he added 61 runs to the partnership for the fourth wicket with Josh English (20). Ultimately, Marsh guided the Australian squad to victory alongside Tim David (31).
