Fans were treated to a hilarious display of entertainment during the India vs England Test match in Rajkot. Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, jokingly escorted Sarfaraz Khan and Yashasvi Jaiswal off the field after they thought the Indian innings had been declared.
On Sunday, February 18, during the third Test match India vs England, there were some humorous occurrences on Day 4. During India’s second turn to bat, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan started to walk off, thinking the innings was over, so Rohit Sharma had to tell them to come back onto the field.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan mistook the Indian captain’s signal to stop the team’s batting shift during the drinks break. The Indian players were preparing to bowl in the dressing room when this occurred in the 97th over of their second innings. England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley rushed to get ready to play in their next innings, believing that India had declared as Sarfaraz and Jaiswal began to walk away.
To dispel misunderstanding, India’s captain Rohit Sharma stood up from his dressing room seat and motioned for the Indian batters to remain where they were. The participants rapidly returned their attention to the game. At the end of the 98th over, Rohit chose to declare India’s innings, but the game continued for just one more over. Sarfaraz Khan blasted two sixes and a boundary off the bowling of England spinner Rehan Ahmed, even in this last over before the declaration.
As the first team to declare against England in the Bazball era, India created history. With a brilliant display, the Indian batters gave the team a commanding lead of 556 runs. India had a commanding 126-run lead going into their second innings. India scored 445 runs in their first innings while England was dismissed for 319 runs in reply. On the third day of the test, Jaiswal reached his century, but he was forced to leave the field because of a back spasm.
Shubman Gill and Kuldeep Yadav, the nightwatchman, forged a solid 55-run partnership. Jaiswal and Sarfaraz increased India’s lead in the game, which they previously had. The Mumbai pair destroyed England’s bowling attack with a spectacular 172-run stand off just 158 balls. Apart from the amusing show put on by the Indian hitters, Rohit added his own special brand of humor with a peculiar gesture.
