CSK spent a huge amount of INR 8.4 crore to bring Rizvi on board during the IPL 2024 auction. Rizvi gained attention after his outstanding performances in the first UPT20 tournament, where he scored two centuries and ended up with a total of 455 runs.
Rizvi shared the guidance he received from the ex-CSK captain as he made his IPL debut with a huge six on the first ball from Rashid Khan.
“Dhoni told me one simple thing: Just keep playing the way you’ve been playing. There’s no need to change anything. Your skills are the same; maybe just adjust your mindset a bit. So, when you’re out there, don’t let the pressure get to you,” Rizvi told the IPL website.
Rizvi emphasized the importance of playing according to the situation to avoid feeling pressure or nervousness. Despite it being his first game, he advised to stick to his usual style of play.
In the IPL auction, Rizvi attracted intense bidding from various franchises, but ultimately, the defending champions secured his services.
He expressed that meeting Dhoni was a dream come true, and now playing alongside him feels surreal. Rizvi mentioned that they’ve had numerous net sessions together, adding to the excitement of being in the same team.
“When CSK picked me in the IPL auction, I was thrilled. Meeting MS Dhoni was a dream come true for me. Playing alongside him was beyond my imagination, but meeting him was something I always wished for. Now, that dream has come true, and I’m actually playing alongside him. We’ve had many net sessions together, and I’ve learned a great deal from him. I’ve also learned a lot from the coaching staff. So, my goal is to soak in as much knowledge as I can from this team,” said Rizvi.
